I met Duquende when he performed with Paco De Lucia’s octet on Guitar Art Festival. He had such energy and “El Duende” (the spirit), and with totally inherited Camaron’s legacy, he was truly an embodiment of the nomadic flamenco philosophy. That Gypsy energy is a MUST SEE and on a live event, that happiness simply explodes from him, unbelievable. When he is himself – he is singing and dancing, you don’t have to ask him to performs for you – he just does it on his own, as the natural state of his being. He smoked all the weed we brought for my band before the concert – in the first 15 minutes, so later so we had nothing, but we were high enough because of the exchanging experience with world legends, (it was after Paco’s concert where I played as an opening act), and my band stayed until the 09:00 the next day with his Paco De Lucia‘s entire octet, including Duquende, Antonio, Josele, etc… Unfortunately, being constantly on the road, touring and traveling, his health deteriorated. He had a small psycho crisis especially after Maestro deceased in 2014, but now he’s better, and back to performing again…
Conocí a Duquende cuando tocó con el octeto de Paco De Lucia en Guitar Art Festival. Tenía tanta energía y “el duende” (el espíritu), y con el legado de Camaron totalmente heredado, fue realmente una encarnación de la filosofía del flamenco nómada. Esa energía gitana es un evento que se DEBE VER y vivir, esa felicidad que explota de él, es increíble. En su estado natural, él está cantando y bailando, no tienes que pedirle que actúe para ti, simplemente lo hace el solo, como un estado natural del ser. Fumó toda la hierba que traje para mi banda en los primeros 15 minutos, así que más tarde no teníamos nada, pero estábamos lo suficientemente alterados debido a la experiencia de intercambio con las leyendas del mundo, (fue después de un concierto de Paco donde yo toqué como la banda talonera), y mi banda se quedó hasta las 14:00 del día siguiente con todo el octeto de Paco De Lucia, incluyendo a Duquende, Antonio, Josele … Desafortunadamente, estando constantemente en el camino, recorriendo y viajando, su salud deterioró. Tuvo una pequeña crisis, especialmente después de la muerte del Maestro, en 2014, pero ahora está mejor y vuelve a actuar de nuevo …
