Antonio Orozco

Antonio Orozco is a Spanish singer and songwriter. He went from Barcelona (where he grew up) to Osuna, near Sevilla, during the nineties. His singing is 100% flamenco, as well as the color of his voice. His broken-like voice is showing Andalusian roots, while the music is arranged in a rock-style manner. In Spain, he became famous after releasing his first album, “Un Reloj Y Una Vela”, (one watch and one candle). It came out in the year 2000, under the influence of Xavi Perez, the producer. Soon after, in 2001 he released the second disc, called “Semilla De Silencio”, (a seed of silence). Both albums were quite the hits when they came out, besides a strong flamenco competition at the time.

at first, didn’t receive any attention of mine. I remember finishing the conservatory in 2000 and at first – not being drawn at all to his music. The flamenco singing for me was something that “had to be” accompanied by classical flamenco arrangements. Cajon, bass, flamenco guitar, NEVER an electric guitar), and by no means a whole drum set, with piano, strings, etc..! But at the same time, for example, the band Ketama – had jazz arrangements, full brass band, and a whole drumset, but with flamenco guitar, that included all of the flamenco instruments, which was something I was absolutely mesmerized with.

was playing and singing in bars, subway stations, and streets during the nineties. which reminded me of myself. He was accompanying himself as well as other singers on the guitar, playing more a rock style than flamenco guitar. I guess the flamenco guitar was something he had a strong respect for. So he just never seriously tried to enter the world of flamenco guitar playing. He was playing the guitar sufficiently to be able to put a simple harmony as harmonic support for his voice. But in the 21st century, with rock arrangements – he managed to reach the surface of the pop flamenco scene…
At the beginning of the 21st century, the Spanish scene was very rich in different flamenco-related musical styles. So, some time was needed to clarify and crystalize all that amount of music coming out.

‘s music got world recognition mostly in Latin America. Precisely because of the peculiar mix of his voice and rock-style arrangements. He had a very prolific and constant career and remained to produce music up til today…
