Angelo Debarre is a true successor of Django Reinhardt‘s legacy. Not just because of his so typical French Gypsy looks, but because of his talent, and the ability to express himself on the guitar, like he was born with it (he really was born with it). Angelo plays on a Selmer Maccaferri type guitar, that was originally making these instruments when Django came to Paris. Django Reinhardt with his band was, of course, the founder of this swing jazz playing style, and his and Stephane Grappelli‘s legacy continued to live through the 20th century. Angelo Debarre has the most incredible ability to control the pick and the dynamics with it, and unlike the electric guitar, the Selmer guitar has a big resonating body, and the dynamics are far more pronounced than on any possibly similar American country guitar. This instruments’ response is also beyond any other country metal strings guitar, it’s simply beyond its limits, especially the tone color wise. These guitars can be forced to produce much more massive tone, but always using a very thick and massive pick… But disregarding his awesome technical abilities, Angelo Debarre’s playing has the soul (el alma), that with his impeccable knowledge and the technique gave us such a wonderful musician and artist.
