Django Reinhardt – Minor Swing

Django Reinhardt Django Reinhardt is definitely one of the most influential figures of European Jazz Gypsy playing style, Angelo Debarre is one of the examples of Django’s legacy. Coming to Paris in the early 1930s, but with obvious Gypsy manner, style, and proudly not hiding his ethnicity (Belgian Romani), and of course not expecting to be differentiated because if it, Django Reinhardt started performing in Paris nightclubs, with “Quintette du Hot Club de France”. But the ignorant French “elite” society at the times was so shallow, that their questions were primarily: = “what are you?” – and then the already offended Django would say – “WE ARE MEN” – (“MANOUSH” in Romani). So the posh French actually wrote, “JAZZ MANOUSH” on a few initial posters announcing their acts, so a “HUMAN JAZZ” phrase (put together from a Gypsy and International word) or “Jazz Manoush” became a synonym for French Gypsy Playing Style. When a fantastic violinist Stéphane Grappelli came to the band, Django started to shine in that new instruments combination, upright bass, rhythm guitar, a violin, and eventually some wind, or vocals, sometimes even including the piano… Django Reinhardt composed some of the Jazz Standards on which the very base of the classical jazz is being thought all over world conservatories, putting his work among the national world heritage…
