Miles Davis came at a moment in which jazz music already significantly evolved, but he was still capable to bring a lot to evolution, leaving a big mark in music history. His love of flamenco’s legacy is evident throughout his whole career. Not just with one song on each of the albums the “Bitches Brew”, and on the “Kind Of Blue”, Miles Davis was also inspired by Iberian heritage and flamenco, and worked with Gil Evans, to create the album “Sketches Of Spain” in 1959. Of course, contemporary with Joaquin Rodrigo and his neoclassical late romanticism composing language, his Concierto de Aranjuez was an inevitable source of inspiration for Miles. It came at a crucial moment in Spanish history, helping the repression of the fascist regime. And it came at the best possible moment to help to spread the nomadic freedom philosophy. He is coming from such a similar social status in the USA during segregation until the 1966th, that he is more than competent to speak about the subject and express his views about the repression. Simultaneously with segregation in the U.S.A. in the 1960s, the fascist regime in Spain started to end, and flamenco started influencing the whole planet…
Miles Davis llegó en el momento en que la música de jazz ya había evolucionado significativamente, pero aún era capaz de aportar mucho a la evolución, dejando una gran marca en la historia de la música. Su amor por el legado flamenco es evidente a lo largo de toda su carrera. No solo con una canción en cada uno de los álbumes “Bitches Brew”, y en “Kind Of Blue”, Miles Davis también se inspiró en la herencia ibérica y el flamenco, trabajando con Gil Evans, para crear el álbum “Sketches Of Spain” en 1959.
